Here at KoH we work hard—and we play hard, too. We're huge Minecraft fans. We've snarked off one of our virtual servers to host our own Minecraft server for the KoH team to play on. It works great!
You should have your own Minecraft server, too. It's awesome because, as the Op, you control the whitelist, the plugins, the mods, and the version. No more griefers!
If you have friends that you play with on a regular basis, consider forming a private club, and sharing the cost: only $3.50 a month each, shared among 20 players.

Our Platinum-level 2GB virtual server is perfect for running 15-20 concurrent players. Just throw on your favorite Linux distro, download the server.cab, and you're good to go.
Of course, it's also a full Linux server, so you could host your own web sites, forums, voice chat, mail server, or anything else if you were so inclined.
